Top 3 Romantic Weekend Destinations from Sydney

There’s nothing more romantic than hiring a car and heading to a quiet and relaxed destination with your loved one. In under two hours you can transport yourself from the hustle and bustle of cosmopolitan Sydney to a variety of  secluded and beautiful couple-friendly retreats. Here are our top 3.

Blue Mountains

Nothing says romance like dazzling mountain scenery. Whether you’re a couple who like exploring the great outdoors, are just looking for some seclusion or want to enjoy some of the country’s best local produce, the Blue Mountains can be whatever you want it to be.

Picture yourselves relaxing in front of an open fire or spending the evening in your own private spa – with a glass of champagne in hand of course. Or perhaps you want to enjoy the beautiful mountain views on horseback. For the adventurous couple, you could find yourselves squeezing and crawling through the world’s oldest caves – Jenolan Caves.

A popular activity for couples in the Blue Mountains is to hire mountain bikes and go exploring the sights and sounds of the region. There are a range of bike trails varying in difficulty, and maps are available from more bike hire stores.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to accommodation options. Choose from large resorts with everything you need at your doorstep or enjoy personalised attention at one of the locally-owned bed and breakfasts. Most places cater for couples so ask about special packages that can include champagne and roses on arrival.

Whatever you’re into – you’ll leave with memories to last a lifetime.

 Hunter Valley

There’s a reason why the French are considered to be the most romantic nation in the world – and I think it’s their love of fine wine and delicious food. Channel your inner Parisian romantic  side with a weekend away at New South Wales wine region – the Hunter Valley.

Hire a car and drive around the beautiful countryside and enjoy free wine tastings at the large and smaller boutique wineries that you’ll find around every corner. The wineries are also some of the best places to experience the Hunter Valley’s famous culinary delights while taking in spectacular views of the vineyards.

Indulge in some divine chocolates at the Hunter Valley Chocolate Company then pamper yourselves with a couples massage at a day spa.

Hawkesbury River

Just over an hours drive from Sydney is the charming region of Hawkesbury River. Enjoy a romantic stroll along the tranquil waterfront, perhaps stopping for a picnic along the way. Serenade your sweetheart on a private boat trip or hire a kayak if you’re feeling more adventurous.

The majority of accommodation in Hawkesbury is situated absolute waterfront, and often boat-access only – so you’re pretty much guaranteed a beautiful view wherever you stay. For ultimate seclusion and romance, why not stay on a houseboat for the weekend?

Popular towns in the region include Wiseman’s Ferry, Brooklyn and St Albans.

You just need to rent a car in Sydney  and go on one of those beautiful trips. Enjoy!:)

I love the idea of traveling to Hunter Valley. It looks absolutely beautiful. I am a big lover of wine. My husband hates it. This would allow me to enjoy fine wines and my husband to have great chocolates and other amazing culinary treats. Followed by a massage at the spa? Yes, please! There seems to be something for all who love a romantic getaway. This may be the newest addition to our travel to do list. Thanks for sharing!
